The Life Of Elizabeth Marie Eves Morrill

Liz was born January 28, 1971 at the Payson, Utah hospital. Her full name was Elizabeth Marie Eves. Her middle name is her maternal grandmother’s name (Marie Tippetts Wartena).

Liz was born the 8th child of 11 to Arthur and Carol Eves (Arthur Glenn Eves Jr. and Carol Joan Wartena). Her older siblings are: Dan, Bev, Jay, Chris, Sarah, Robin, and Anita. After Liz, came Rebecca, David, and Sally.

She was born two weeks early. The night before she was born her mom and dad won a jitterbug-dancing contest (they loved to dance) – this must have put her mom into labor. Her mom tells the story, that because Liz was early; she didn’t have anything to bring her home from the hospital in. Grandma Zora (her dad’s mom) gave $10 to her dad’s brother to get some baby clothes (plural). He came back with one cute, but expensive (at the time), pink nightgown.

Liz lived in a little home with her parents and 9 brothers and sisters in Spanish Fork Utah until she was five. While there, she and her sisters, Anita and Rebecca, all shared a bed, and sometimes David too. It was a very small home for such a large family! But the family was very close and had a lot of love and a lot of faith! They went to church every week and always had family prayer and family home evening. Though Liz wasn’t blessed with a wealthy family money-wise, she was greatly blessed with a faithful, God-loving family!

The Eves family then moved to a NEW house in Orem, Utah that had enough rooms for this huge family. She still shared a room with a sister but it was just one sibling, not 2 or 3. The youngest child in the family was born while living in Orem, little Sally Ann.

Liz was baptized at 8 years old by her father. She attended Cascade Elementary School.  When Liz was 10 years old she was on an all boys basketball team, and was really good! She was taller than most of the boys. She had lots of friends but was closest to her sister Rebecca who was just one year younger than her.  People always thought they were twins. When they weren’t pulling each other’s hair they got along great. She was also close to Anita, just two years older, though Anita tormented her younger siblings a lot at this stage of life.

In 1983, when Liz was 12, the Eves family moved to Redmond Washington (well at least some of the family. Her older siblings, Dan, Bev, Jay, Sarah, and Rob had gotten married). They moved into a home on "Education Hill" in Redmond. Liz shared a room with Rebecca then got her OWN room finally - in fact it was one of the biggest rooms in the house (her dad split the downstairs family room into two bedrooms, one was Liz's). She attended Redmond Junior High School and Redmond High School. She was on the track team, volleyball team, did some basketball and gymnastics. She was also involved with DECA in high school.

Liz dated A LOT in high school and had lots of fun with friends. Her sisters were still her closest friends and by this time had become much more civil to each other and amazingly, they rarely fought. To this day Liz’s sisters are her best friends and they love her dearly!

Liz graduated from Redmond High in 1989. The next year she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. While home for summer break she met the man of her dreams in the singles ward, Robert Morrill! She was just 19 years old and he was 33!! Her parents were a little worried but soon realized what a fantastic man Rob was.
Liz at Ricks College
The summer of 1990, was spent going on fun dates with Rob to the goodwill games that were in Seattle that year, rock climbing at Mt. Erie and sailing on Rob’s Hobi cat sail boat. Not to mention going to all kinds of single’s ward activities.  It was truly a fun filled summer.

When fall got close, she decided not to return to college, because she knew Rob “was the one” and kept working instead at a pre-school.  They continued dating, and finally when she kissed him (on the 13th of Sept.)!!! He realized what she had known all summer…

Rob proposed to Liz on September 29, 1990 at Laraby State Park, after he took her to a Les Miserables play in Canada, at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. It was a magical night! They were married on November 10, 1990 in the Seattle Temple and honeymooned in Spain! Liz had never been out of the country before so she was very excited for this trip!

Liz and Rob’s first child, Micah McKay, was born on October 23, 1991. They lived in Kirkland, Washington.
A year and a half later Liz had their 2nd child, Mark Kimball, on April 30, 1993.

She quickly became pregnant again and had their 3rd son, not even a year later. On April 15, 1994, Ammon Lee was born. Liz was 23 years old at this point and had three little boys three and under! It was a VERY BUSY time of life!

The Morrill family built a home on Camano Island Washington and moved into it in October 1994. They had LOTS of land for the kids to run around on.

Liz and Rob’s 4th child, cute, little, curly haired Peder Grant was born October 18, 1996. Up until this time, Liz always had her boy’s hair cut really short, to make it easier. Peder was the first one to grown his hair out – who would want to cut off those curls!

Rob and Liz decided to take a few years off of having kids. Then in around 1999 they decided to have another child. Unfortunately Liz ended up having two miscarriages, which was very hard! She decided to take her mind off it and planned a trip to England with her sisters, Anita and Rebecca, and a good friend, Dana. They spent 10 amazing days in London and Bath in May 2001.

Finally, later that year she had a sustainable pregnancy. She very happily gave birth to little Shane Hunter on February 17, 2002! Up to this point Liz had 5 wonderful, strong, active, adorable little boys whom she loved dearly. She wished she’d had a girl but knew that the Lord would send the children that were right for her family.
In 2003 Liz became pregnant again and during a routine Dr.’s appoint the Dr. found that her thyroid was enlarged. After a biopsy it was confirmed that she had thyroid cancer (she was only 32 years old).  She had surgery to remove her thyroid, while 5 months pregnant, The baby was still fine and they found out they would be having their first girl… Oh the excitement and shopping for little girl things could begin! Sweet, little Ana Rebekah was born March 1, 2004. She was so adorable with all that black feathery hair!

Liz started radiation treatments shortly after Ana was born and in the midst of this, during the winter of 2004, Rob’s job transferred to Illinois (actually it was in Iowa, but just over the border).  Liz found a Dr. there and moved to Geneseo Illinois, into a nice home and a tiny LDS branch. Liz continued to have radiation treatments there and six month after the move Rob was called as the Branch President. With their boys they doubled the amount for the young men’s program in the branch!

Not long after the move, Liz had surgery (to repair the effects of having six babies) and then amongst all the chaos of settling into a completely new place and Liz still doing radiation treatments, she found that she was pregnant again, with her 7th child. Both her and Rob were shocked beyond belief because they thought they were done having children and had been being very careful not to get pregnant with all the radiation Liz was going through. Needless to say, they were nervous about their unborn baby. They found out that they would be having another girl and the Dr. said everything looked good.  May 26, 2006 little McKaye Dana was born, completely healthy with no problems whatsoever… she was truly a miracle baby!! And a bonus… Liz finally had a child that looked like her!
Liz’s father passed away suddenly on Father’s day, June 15th, 2008. Her and all her siblings met in Utah for his funeral. It was a hard time but he was in a much better place.
In the Summer of 2008 Liz and Rob moved their wonderful brood back to Washington, but this time to Snohomish. Since then, her oldest son has graduated from high school and gone on to college. She has three boys in high school, two in elementary school and one just about to start kindergarten!

On January 28, 2011, Liz turned 40 years old!!! For her birthday, her sisters Anita and Rebecca flew in to surprise her (Anita’s birthday is just 5 days before Liz’s and for her birthday she got the plane ticket to go to Washington for Liz’s birthday). Rob picked Rebecca and Anita up at the airport and came home. Liz was with the kids at a wrestling tournament. When she walked in she was in complete shock at seeing her sisters there. Then the hugging began! The next day the three went to a ZUMBA class where the teacher did a special birthday song just for Liz. She had to stand in the middle of the class where everyone danced and sang to her. After getting all ready for the day, the three went to lunch at, “The Cabbage Patch” in downtown Snohomish with Liz’s visiting teachers. Then the three walked around town looking at all the fun shops.
On Saturday morning Liz, Anita, and Rebecca attended a very intense weight lifting class (and consequently were sore for the rest of the weekend – but it was a “good sore”). Also on Saturday, Rob had planned a big surprise party for Liz. It was to be at the church that night. He had recruited the help of a wonderful lady in their ward, Sister Hawks, who did the invitations, decorations and planned games. She also had Sister Frost make a beautiful cake. Rob was in charge of the food but wasn’t sure what to get so told Liz he needed to take Rebecca and Anita with him that morning to go shopping (hopefully she thought they were just helping him pick out a present).  After getting the food the three sisters went shopping (a favorite past time for all of them). That night Rob said he was taking her to dinner, they left at 5pm. Before leaving Rob had asked someone in their ward to call their home saying they needed to pick up something from the church that night. Well, unfortunately Liz answered the phone and she explained that her and Rob were going out so it would be best if they could get it at church the next day – that rouse didn’t work! While they were out on their date (eating at a fantastic Indian Restaurant), Rebecca called Rob and explained that Peder was playing basketball at the church and needed  to be picked up (rouse #2). Even though they were far out of the way, and were “supposed to” be going somewhere else, Rob said they would do it. In the mean time, all the guests of the party had already shown up and were ready to surprise the two as they walked in. It was a great surprise, Liz was dumbfounded! There were great games; get to know you games, a fun running banana game, square dancing, and a fun throwing the ball/toilet paper in a circle game. The food was wonderful and the company was excellent! Liz’s brother, Jay and his family came as well.

On Sunday, all went to Church and had a nice relaxing Sabbath day. Monday, Anita and Rebecca had to fly out in the late afternoon. So early that day they drove to Seattle where they went to the Space Needle, going to the top (at $18 per person – holy cow!). Then they drove to Pike Place Market and walked through the shops and vendors, tasting produce and eating lunch at a great little cheese factory. After getting chocolate at a chocolate shop they went to the “Gum Wall” in Post Alley just south of Pike Place Market. It was truly a sight to behold, pretty gross but fascinating as well. Just opposite the gum wall what a big graffiti wall. After taking photos and buying souvenirs for family they three drove to the airport and said a sad goodbye to one another. It was a fantastic weekend!

All throughout the growing up years of their children, Liz has been, and is, a wonderful, loving, and very dedicated mother to her 7 children! Rob, a very involved father, has a job that takes him out of the country or to other states often. Liz has relied on her faith and wonderful friends throughout the years and has made forever friendships wherever she has lived. Wonderful people who are like family to her!

What a magnificent life Liz has lived so far… and surely the next 40+ years will bring as many wonderful experiences for Liz and those who know and love her.

Happy 40th Birthday Liz!!

From David Eves

Elizabeth,

First of all, I want to tell you how lucky I’ve always considered myself. I am so blessed to have grown up with amazing sisters. You’ve always been an example to me and I cherish the memories of growing up together. I remember so many family reunions; hanging out with cousins in the laundry room of one camp and playing at the sand dunes. Climbing Grandma’s mountain, and going to Timpanogos cave. I especially remeber you letting me tag along with you and your friends when you were in high school, and loving coming over to your house when you were first married and Micha was a baby. You were living in Kirkland and it was so much fun to have you so close.

You have always been an example of spiritual strength. I can remember you bearing your testimony at a youth conference or something. I don’t remember what you said but I knew from then on that your testimony was strong and that I could count on you. Your strength as an adult has been an inspiration and I still consider myself lucky to be you little brother.

I know that I haven’t been the best about keeping in touch but I hope you know that I love you. I will be forever blessed to have you as a sister and you deserve every happiness in life.

Happy birthday,
Love Dave (and family)

From Jay & Leisa Eves

Dear Liz,

It was so fun to come down to your big birthday bash! Love you so much! Hope you have many many more to come! Birthdays and bashes to remember them by!

It has been such an honor and privilege to watch you grow through the years. From Jay remembering how you loved him to swing you around outside and give you horsey rides, to the somewhat shy young girl I met in 1982. We love you, and are proud to be your brother and sister.

Thanks for all you have done for us over the years!

Love, Jay and Leisa

Surprise #2... Rob planned a big surprise party for Liz!

With the help of the wonderful sister Hawks in the ward, Rob planned a wonderful surprise birthday party for Liz. He first took her to dinner, while they were gone Rebecca called Rob, saying they needed to go to the church to pick up Peder on their way home (he was supposedly playing basketball). When they walked in we all yelled "SURPRISE!" ... It was a great evening with really fun games, great company, and yummy food.
